"Getting Buggy" at the JCC

RCF "The Arts" Week wouldn't complete without some dancing, would it?

We "Got Buggy" with about 200 summer camp kids (aka future farmers) at the Stamford JCC this past Monday, and it was so much fun!

We were graciously invited by the center to participate in their Green Day Celebration, and asked if we could do a little talk on what it's like to be an Organic Farmer and the importence of eating locally. Well anytime we get an invitation, we don't like to come empty handed - so, we brought our "jazz hands"

Our farmers-to-be got to plant organic seeds in seed trays at the JCC Planting Press, and will be able to watch them grow at the JCC Growing Garden. They learned about some of our organic methods and approaches that we take here on the farm, they buzzed like honey bees as they met our bee friends and were the the FIRST KIDS EVER to color a sample page from my Farming with Rolo Coloring & Activity Book (coming out this fall)!

But I think the best part was looking at creepy-crawly pictures of bugs and then "Getting Buggy" as they learned our farm's "hoe-down" dance!

Boom-Clap-Boom-Di-Clap-Di-Clap.

I have some photos below : I wish I could have snapped more!

Be sure to look for a Beautiful Hydrangea at the JCC, that the campers planted on Green Day. It was generously donated by James at McArdles for the event. (I asked him if he had a little something that the kids could plant - and he was like, sure I'll put it next to your car - it was huge!!! For those of you who haven't checked out McArdles in Greenwich, be sure you do - such nice folks & they have everything that you need for your garden and home! mcardles.com

Joanna, our Cooking Fairy, launched her "Healthy Snack & Lunch Pack" program, where she creates magic in the lunchbox! She is also available for cooking parties for kids, slumber party fun treats - how cool is that!

From Joanna-

"What better way to celebrate that special occasion than getting a group of friends together and cooking up a storm? Children love to roll, mix, whisk and decorate. All party programs ensure that hands and minds are kept busy and fully entertained. You will see from the party menus that participants really cook (not just decorate) - and they learn from it too!

The Cooking Fairy brings the magic to your home or choice of location, where your child is most comfortable. Each party is as unique as your home is unique. You will never get the feeling of being on a 'party conveyor belt' with a cookie cutter solution for celebration. These occasions are heaps of fun, very special and truly memorable!

Parties are designed to accommodate up to ten young chefs. I work with your space, but all that is really needed is a large kitchen/dining table. I set up prior to your celebration and clean up after-wards. I provide all the ingredients for your party along with aprons and all necessary kitchen utensils and bakeware.

Choose from the menu options; Perfect Pizza Party, Afternoon Tea, Gnocchi Supper or Sleepover Special. Each party incorporates lots of genuine cooking and baking.

If you are concerned about providing party food and favors,The Cooking Fairy has you covered! The party menus provide both. Part of the fun for your guests is that they get to eat what they make. But menus also consider leaving space for that special celebration cake and so the sweet treats created by each guest are packaged with Cooking Fairy-style and sent home as a party favor along with printed recipe cards". thefairycook.com
